Last weekend I ran a 5K. It wasn’t actually called the CMY(5)K, but by the time I finished the San Jose Color Run I did look like one of those CMYK registration marks.

The Color Run is accurately dubbed the “Happiest 5K” on the planet. Participants are encouraged to wear white and as they run they are doused head to toe in various colors as they reach each kilometer mark. At the finish line, the race ends in a colorful explosion and celebration.

Initially I was worried about the dye staining my clothes and hair, but after reading the tips on the website I decided to give it a try. One tip was to place cellphones and cameras in ziplock bags to prevent them from being damaged by the dye – hence, the following blurry pictures. Several people on the message boards also recommended coating your hair in coconut oil to make the washing process easier. That sounded like good advice, so I oiled up my buns (hair) and headed to the starting line!

The fun began at the 1K mark where I got “Smurfed Up” at the Blue Station….

The photos from the Orange Station at the 2K mark mysteriously disappeared. What’s not pictured is me running around looking like a Cheeto until I reached the Yellow Station at the 3K mark…then I transformed into a human yellow Post-It note…

The Pink Station was next at the 4K mark…

…and finally  as I crossed the finish line I was showered in glitter. Although it didn’t photograph well, trust me – it was SHINY!

I had an awesome time at the colorful finish line party, COUNT ME IN FOR NEXT YEAR!
