After the way 2020 went down, I was hesitant to make New Years resolutions for 2021. However, one thing I WON’T be doing this year is hoarding fabric I love and saving it for “one day”. Those days usually never come and life is too short to not enjoy beautiful things everyday.

I fell in love with this fabric from JOANN the moment I saw it! I decide it to  use it for projects that I could use and enjoy on a daily basis. Being the founder of a Black owned handmade business, the print on the fabric really captures the spirit of all hardworking (melanated!) hands required to make my dream a reality.

Since I spend a ton of time in my studio, I made a few pouches to organize my art stuff and other supplies that I use daily.

I even covered one with fusible vinyl so that I wouldn’t have to worry about spills or stains. Waterproofing fabric is easy to do and expands the options for how the fabric can be used.

I didn’t want any of the fabric to go to waste so I sewed the remnants into a tube and alternated stuffing and threading beads (with knots in between) to make a cute chunky necklace. It’s perfect for last minute Zoom meetings…it adds a little “polish” to my sweat shirt and leggings work from home uniform.

If you pick up some fabric from the JOANN Black History Month Collection, leave me a comment and let me know what you make!
